Style
“Beach glamour — a touch of modesty, yet still very sexy.”

Explorer
“I am an internal medicine physician, I moved to Hawaii in 2009 from Chicago partially to get away from the frigid winters but mostly because I had always dreamed of living in Hawaii. I lived in India for just over 5 years of my adult life. I consider myself to be an explorer and a lifelong student. I have many interests including scuba diving, real estate, painting and traveling. Fashion is more of a passion than just an interest, it’s something I find great enjoyment in. I get to exercise my left brain at the hospital and designing is my creative outlet for my right brain.”

Inspire
“I find my greatest inspiration in my current beautiful natural surroundings. The intense colors and textures found in nature here in Hawaii is why I felt such a strong desire to create MAIA when I moved here. I felt a similar connection while I lived in India. Quiet honestly, I couldn’t think of two more wonderfully unique and rich cultures to blend into my designs.”

Design
“Becoming a designer was a choice to follow a passion of mine. I started out designing as a hobby, creating Indian wedding and party pieces for friends. I enjoyed seeing the smile on a friend’s face when they would put on something that I could see made them feel beautiful. I think that’s something achievable every day. With MAIA I strive to bring out the inner goddess through beautiful design.”

Collection
“My current collection combines easy, breezy Hawaiian style with a splash of opulence using intricate Indian embellishments and embroidery. My line consists of vibrant colors, diaphanous materials and a sprinkle of sophisticated sparkle. I have created kaftans, dresses, tunics, beach robes, beach pants and also have crystal embellished and beaded headbands. All of my pieces are handmade. I have used shell and mother of pearl accents alongside more traditional Indian embroidery- called zardosi, resham and gota. They are very versatile pieces that can be worn poolside over a swimsuit or at an elegant evening event over a cami.”

Memory
“My family is of royal Indian heritage and we have some amazing heirlooms handed down from generation to generation. I have one piece which is close to 100 years old that has very intricate embroidery made from real gold and silver wire. As a kid growing up in the Midwest, it was awe-inspiring.”

Future
“I hope to continue designing and creating additions to the line, I have been working on developing a men’s and children’s line to complement the current women’s line. Eventually, I would like to use proceeds from MAIA to develop a nonprofit from which I can offer free medical services and education to the underserved here in Hawaii.”

Dream Vacation
“Never-ending travel around the world, there’s so much to see and experience out there in one lifetime.”

Dream Celebrity Client
“Jennifer Aniston, I find her dignified manner and impeccable style extraordinarily glamorous, she has mastered the art of ‘subtle sexy.’ She personifies the kind of girl MAIA is made for.”

Favorite Hawaii Hangout
“Sharks Cove on Northshore.”
